- Feb 14, 2017 Hello, Ive just recently purchased a 2015 mazda6 sport. The car came with a feature that reads out incoming text messages from a phone via bluetooth. Unfortunatly the sytem is failing to download any messages as well as receive incoming messages. I have a samsung s6. Any help would be greatly apreciated as i would like to get the optimum use of the car.
So I was hoping I could get a sense from the community here of how many people actually have this feature working in their CX-5, and if it always worked or if they had to have something special to get it working?
When I bought my CX-5 I had an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 running 4.3 and the text message feature didn't work at all from day one. I was able to make and receive calls, plus stream audio via bluetooth so I didn't worry about it too much but it always kind of bugged me. I would get the notification on my Nav screen that I had a new message but whenever I chose to the option to download now it would try to download it for a little bit and then say that the download failed and to try again later.
In early June I was having an issue with my phone so I took it to the AT&T store where they completely wiped the contents and upgraded it to 4.4.2 and when I tried pairing it to my car after that and testing the text message feature low and behold it worked! The car was able to download up to 15 text messages, and I could display them on the screen if the car wasn't moving and have the read out loud to me if it was. It worked great for about 2 weeks when all of a sudden it stopped working again and I started getting the same error message I had before. I did try deleting all of the text messages on my phone and having a friend text me without any pictures, emoji's, etc. just to see if that was what was causing the issue, but no dice.
Anyway, can you please let us know if this feature works for you and what kind of phone you have and what versions OS you are running? Thanks.

SMS (Short Message Service), MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service), and emails received by connected devices can be downloaded, displayed, read aloud and responded to, all from your vehicle.
Display notification of received SMS/Email messages:
- Select COMMUNICATION from the Home Screen.
- Select Settings.
- Switch email/SMS Notification to ON; to turn notification off, switch toOFF.
- Switch Auto Download Email or Auto Download Text (SMS/MMS) to ON; to turn automatic downloading off, switch to OFF.
Download and view messages manually from your connected device:
- Select Text Messagesor Email from the Communication menu.
- Select Update Inbox (email) or Update Messages (SMS); download from connected mobile phone will begin.
- Select message from list.
Receive and view messages from notifications:
- Select Notifications from the Communication menu.
- Select message from list.
Functions and options:
- Select INBOX LIST for list of current messages. Make your selection.
- Select PLAY for audio playback of message; press again to pause temporarily.
- Select PREVIOUS to display more recently received message.
- Select NEXT to display previously received message.
- Select REPLY; select Message; select response from Message Preset List; select Send.
- Select REPLY TO ALL (email only); select Message; select response fromMessage Preset List; select Send.
- Select CALL to make a call to the sender of the current message (for email, sender must be in contacts).
- Select DELETE to delete current message in both system and connected device.
Change email account to be displayed:
Text Message Download Failed
- Select Email from the Communication menu.
- Select Inbox. Make your selection from list of email accounts.

- Select Settings from the Communication menu.
- Select Preset Messages.
- Select preset message you wish to edit; use keyboard to edit; check to store revised preset message.
